how to style crop hoodies: 5 looks from cozy to festival-ready
Fina FunkShare
the crop hoodie gets a bad reputation for being a one-trick pony. wear it to the gym, wear it on a lazy sunday, done. but here's the thing — that's a you problem, not a hoodie problem. (bahaha that's us repeating something our kids say)
no but srsly, if you're doing it right, a crop hoodie can take you from a cozy morning coffee to a festival dance floor without missing a beat, a fist bump or a single ounce of pure joy .
we know this because we live it. we're a gen x couple who've been chasing adventures together since before "festival fashion" was even a thing — hiking trails at dawn, dancing at outdoor festivals until the stars come out, building something we love from a room the size of a closet near whistler, bc.
the crop hoodie isn't just a product we sell. it's what one of us (me = fina!) is actually wearing when we're doing all of the above. here's how we style it — and how you can too.
look 1: the cozy morning ☕
crop hoodie + high-waisted wide-leg sweatpants + slides. hair up, coffee in hand, zero apologies. this is the look that says "i woke up like this" and actually means it in the best possible way. you're not trying. that's the whole point. we live in this look on slow mornings when the mountains are doing their thing outside the window and there's nowhere to be except exactly here.
the rustic sunrise back | crop hoodie in a neutral colourway is doing all the heavy lifting so you don't have to. grab it, throw it on, go get your coffee. the modern graphic on the back is basically a personality at this point.
look 2: the mountain casual 🏔️
crop hoodie + baggy jeans + chunky boots. layer it over a long-sleeve tee so the hem peeks out underneath — that little bit of contrast is doing more work than it looks like. add a trucker hat and you are whistler-ready, trail-ready or just "standing outside looking effortlessly cool"-ready.
any of those counts. this is genuinely our go-to for a day that starts with a hike and ends with a pint somewhere with good views. the discoball | crop hoodie hits different against a mountain backdrop and we will not be taking questions about it.
look 3: the urban street 🌆
crop hoodie tied at the waist (yes, tied — stay with us) + wide-leg cargo pants + white sneakers. the hoodie stops being a hoodie and starts being an accessory. it's unexpected, it's a little chaotic, and it's very, very good.
we've been dressing this way since the 90s when nobody had a name for it yet other than 'grunge'. which didn't really explain it. that was a narrow genre in a fully all-encompassing niche of weird coolness. now they call it streetwear. we just call it tuesday.
lol, jk, but we do think this is the look that makes people stop and go "wait, what are you wearing?" and the answer is: a crop hoodie tied around your waist, and you've never felt more powerful.
look 4: the festival layer 🪩
crop hoodie over a baby tee + high-waisted flared jeans + platform boots. this is the look for when the sun goes down, the bass kicks in, and the dance floor becomes your whole personality. we've been going to outdoor festivals together for decades — the kind with tents and mud and magic and a DJ who plays until sunrise — and the crop hoodie has been there for all of it.
the sunset rainbow | crop hoodie was literally made for this moment — that back graphic hits when you're dancing and everyone behind you gets the full show.
bring your person. make it a moment. you're basically the DJ's favourite people in the crowd.
look 5: the elevated casual ✨
crop hoodie + tailored wide-leg trousers + loafers. yes, really. we know.
stay with us.
this is the look that breaks every "rule" about what a hoodie is supposed to be and comes out the other side looking like it was always meant to be this way. the crop hoodie stops at just the right point — that little sliver of waistband peeking out between the hem and the high-waisted trouser is doing more work than an entire outfit should be allowed to do.
go for a neutral trouser — oatmeal, slate, camel — and let the discoball graphic be the only thing anyone's looking at. loafers keep it grounded. no chunky sneakers here, no platform boots. just clean, simple, slightly unexpected footwear that says "i know exactly what i'm doing and i've known for a while."
this is the look for the gallery opening that turns into a late dinner that turns into dancing somewhere with good music. it's the look for when you want to look like you tried without looking like you tried. it's the look for people who've been doing this long enough to know that the best outfits are the ones that surprise you.
we designed the big ol' discoball | crop hoodie for exactly this energy. wear it. own it. 🪩 the contrast between the relaxed, slightly oversized hoodie and the structured trousers is the whole entire point. it's the fashion equivalent of showing up to a fancy dinner in your best outfit but with your hair slightly undone. intentional chaos. controlled cool.
we designed the big ol' discoball | crop hoodie for exactly this energy — the graphic is big enough to be a statement, the fit is relaxed enough to be effortless, and together with a wide-leg trouser it's giving art gallery opening meets after-party and we are completely obsessed.
look 6: not just for the girls (bonus look;)
yeah we said it. the crop hoodie is girl-forward and we own that completely. but if you're a guy reading this — hi, welcome, glad you're here — we haven't forgotten about you.
our discoball | zip hoodie is your version of all of this. same disco ball energy, full length, zip front, and it goes with everything from cargo shorts at a festival to joggers on a lazy sunday. wear it open over a tee at the front of the stage. wear it zipped up on a cool mountain morning. wear it because the disco ball graphic is genuinely one of the coolest things we've ever made and it looks incredible on everyone. and tbh, we wear ours ALL. THE. TIME.
festival fashion doesn't have a dress code. show up however you want. just show up. 🪩
