outdoor fashion doesn't have to be boring — and funk + fina is proving it
a new bc-born apparel brand is bringing bold design, retro alpine energy, and a little more personality to the outdoors.
whistler, bc — outdoor gear has gotten very good at being technical. it's gotten very good at being functional. and somewhere along the way, it got very good at being beige.
funk + fina is here to change that.
the brand didn't start with a business plan. it started with a cabin, a powder day on blackcomb, and a crew that showed up dressed like they'd raided closets from three different decades. somehow it worked. that's basically the whole brand.
the founders will tell you part of it came down to something embarrassingly simple: they wanted a great disco-ball hoodie to wear to a backyard bbq. not a bedazzled novelty piece or an unreachable designer splurge. just a genuinely well-made, actually-cool hoodie that fit the moment. they couldn't find one. so they made their own.
behind that first hoodie was a bigger frustration. technical performance has never been more accessible, but much of the fashion surrounding it has become increasingly safe — muted colour palettes, minimal graphics, endless variations of the same outdoor uniform. about as inspiring as a greige wall.
funk + fina wanted the opposite.
inspired by the unapologetic style of 70s and 80s alpine culture, the brand leans into bold prints, worn textures, retro ski graphics, and unexpected colour. the goal isn't to recreate the past — it's to bring back some of the personality that made vintage ski style so memorable in the first place.
but nostalgia isn't the point. the point is that feeling — the worn-in, soft-from-a-hundred-washes hoodie you reach for every time. the tee that gets better with every wash. funk + fina is built to chase that feeling from day one.
born in british columbia and designed near whistler, the brand is for people who ski hard, stay out late, throw backyard parties, and have strong opinions about vintage outerwear.
because getting outside doesn't mean checking your personality at the trailhead.
