how to stay soft in a hard world (without losing your spark)
Fina FunkShare
the world feels heavy right now. we get it.
between doomscrolling, climate anxiety, crumbling world leaders and the general chaos of being alive in 2026, it's easy to feel like you're either completely checked out or drowning in it all
but here's the thing: you don't have to choose between being present and protecting your peace and you don't have to choose between caring and protecting your sanity
you can care deeply about the world and still dance in your kitchen. you can stay informed and still take that sunset hike. you can be resilient without being numb
here's how we're navigating it all - with softness, intention... and a little bit of funk

1. feel your feelings (yes, all of them) but most of all, trust your gut
resilience isn't about being unshakeable - it's about letting yourself bend without breaking
it's about knowing that it's never 'black or white, good or bad' that it's always shades of grey
it's not about swimming hard with the current to stay afloat - it's about staying in your lane - in your peace - and let the current move around you
cry when you need to. rage (into a pillow, not a person!) when it's warranted
laugh until your stomach hurts.
all of it is valid. all of it is human
face your emotions, let them pass and move forward
2. micro-moments of joy are resistance
what does that mean, you're asking yourself eh?
maybe it's some mumble-jumble I made up but I think being happy, feeling joy, passing sadness and despair by creates a stronger you, a more resilient you and someone that knows who they are, and doesn't get caught in the sway of every passing emotion or criticism
what are somethings to do?
- focus on enduring positive emotions: laughing with your partner or child, eating delicious food, experiencing wonderful experiences,
- reducing envy,
- cultivating altruism,
- and reducing mental toxins like hatred and anxiety.
it means that only you can control your emotions - don't let the outside world dictate you; your life dictates the outside world
making your morning coffee exactly how you like it and taking your sweet time doing it? resistance
dancing to your favourite song and singing real bad? resistance
wearing that outfit that makes you feel like you no matter who cares? resistance
joy isn't frivolous - it's fuel. it's how we keep going when everything feels impossible
joy could be what separates humans from the rest of the animals - sheer, overwhelming, ecstatic joy
but you can care without carrying it all
3. stay informed, not consumed
you're not alone - out of a four-year Harvard Graduate School of Education' research project in the US, 73% of those surveyed selected technology as contributing to loneliness in the country - and it's hard not to get trapped down the rabbit-hole catch-22 oxymoron of social media to feel checked in = feeling more detached and lonely = to more doomscrolling = etc, etc.
set boundaries with the news. check in once or twice a day, then step away
follow accounts that inspire action, not just outrage. unfollow anything that makes you feel powerless - don't give ANYone else your power
only you are in control of you
hope is a practice, not a feeling
you don't have to feel hopeful to act hopeful
and it's hard to feel hopeful when so much is going wrong so stay in the moment, so make sure to focus on your health, your wealth and your wisdom
fill your days with things you love to do, make time for rituals and routines
hope is planting seeds you might not see bloom. hope is showing up anyway. hope is believing that small acts of kindness ripple further than we'll ever know
hope is choosing to stay soft in a hard world - not because it's easy, but because it's worth it
the mountains taught us this: you can be both gentle and unshakeable. soft doesn't mean weak—it means staying open when the world tells you to close off, choosing kindness when cynicism feels easier, leading with your heart even when it's been bruised
wearing your values isn't just about the clothes on your back (though we think that helps 🏔️)
it's about moving through the world with intention
it's the small rebellions—choosing joy over hustle, connection over comparison, presence over productivity
softness is your superpower. it's what makes you notice the light hitting the peaks just right, what makes you stop for the wildflowers, what keeps you curious instead of jaded. and your spark? that's the part of you that refuses to dim just because the world feels heavy sometimes.
so stay soft, mountain soul. the world needs more people who haven't hardened, who still believe in magic and possibility and the transformative power of a really good sunset.
because everyone deserves funky fashion—and everyone deserves to stay soft while they're wearing it.
