small acts, big impact: staying grounded when everything feels chaotic
Fina FunkShare
when the world feels overwhelming, the answer isn't always to do more - sometimes it's about doing less, but with more intention
this is part 2 of our resilience series, where we explore the practical, everyday actions that keep us grounded when everything feels chaotic
because you don't need a complete life overhaul to feel better. you just need to start small
do one small thing
you don't have to save the world alone. you just have to show up, find your community and look after something: a plant, a pet, a friend, a stranger, your partner, your parents
looking after something other than yourself gives you a sense of connection and feeling valued
donate $5 to someone that is asking. pick up rubbish on the side of the road on your walk. sign a petition(s) or donate to your favourite cause. text a friend who's struggling out of the blue.
buy from a small business. plant something, anything, herbs on your windowsill, wildflowers in a bucket on your porch, even a small bouquet of tulips on your table will lift your mood
small actions compound
you're not doing nothing, and you're not losing yourself into others either
move your body (even if it's just a giggle-and-a-wiggle)
anxiety lives in the body, but so does joy... which one are you going to cultivate?
I decided long ago that I prefer to be happy, grateful and joyful. and that's that
I let other emotions move through me, I feel them, I see them, and I acknowledge that they are not a part of me. they are foreign emotions to my preferred peaceful state
and integral to my feeling joy is moving my body, my joints and muscles and lifting heavy things, being outdoors, breathing fresh oxygenated air
stretch in bed - like a cat. then go for a walk toward the morning sunlight
dance to music that moves you. shake out the pain. let your body remember that it's safe, even when your brain is spiralling
you are in control of yourself
everyday you must keep moving and doing things that seem hard with your body
rest is productive
you don't have to earn your downtime
you don't have to be "on" all the time
naps are valid
saying no is valid
doing absolutely nothing is valid
you can't pour from an empty cup, and the world needs you full
wear what makes you feel alive
this one's non-negotiable.
life's too short for boring clothes. put on that disco tank. rock that mountain hoodie
let your clothes remind you that you're still here, still vibrant, still you
because when the world feels grey, sometimes the most radical thing you can do is wear colour
the compound effect of small choices
here's my truth: you don't need a dramatic transformation to feel grounded. you need consistent, small acts of care
one walk won't fix everything. but a daily walk? that calms your nervous system, which calms your heart
doing something good everyday - with your body, for someone else, for your mental health - you become habituated to it and don't feel complete without it
one act of kindness won't save the world. but a habit of kindness? that ripples further than you'll ever know
one rest day won't cure burnout. but honouring your need for rest regularly? that's how you stay in the game long-term
small acts, done with intention, create big impact - not just for the world, but for you
so take the walk. wear the outfit. rest when you need to. do the small thing
because staying grounded isn't about perfection
it's about showing up, one small act at a time 🏔️✨
